When fabrications require special features it is often much quicker and easier to carry this out in the machine shop prior to welding. Plates can be drilled and tapped, pins and joints turned ready for welding and many others. Don't forget to ask for weld vee preparation as often this only takes a few extra seconds, especially on the lathe.
